NEWS DESK 2nd AUGUST 2000 - MICHAEL WALSH: BEHIND THE HEADLINES
SLEAZE RAG REELS UNDER 'CORRUPT' ALLEGATIONS
Tony Hetherington, the Mail on Sunday’s consumer champ, regarded as one of the country’s top scam-busting detectives has slammed the Daily Mirror’s ‘shoddy investigators’. He accused the sick-tabloid of ‘turning the truth into lies and lies into truth’
In an extraordinary attack the highly respected Daily Mail financial journalist exposed the Daily Mirror’s journalists as ‘shoddy’. He went on to say that ‘The Daily Mirror clearly judges other newspapers by its own standards.’
What followed was a devastating exposure of the corruption still lying at the heart of Mirror Group newspapers long after its Euro-Israeli bully-boy boss Robert Maxwell threatened an ecological disaster by depositing himself in the Atlantic for a swim which ended in an Israeli tomb ‘fit for a king.’
Hetherington focused on the lack of standards at Mirror Group by recalling that the nasty tabloid’s editor, Piers Morgan, invested heavily in shares that were later tipped as a good investment for readers. (Pass the sick bucket, please!)
PIERS MORGAN, ‘UNFIT TO BE EDITOR’
As a result of the shares scandal Piers Morgan whose seedy-tab makes a fortune from pornography featuring ‘barely legal teens’, was forced to publish ‘the longest and most scathing criticism in living memory from the Press Complaints Commission.’
The Mail’s noted financial columnist said, "I am dismayed to see a once great newspaper sinking perceptibly under the leadership of a man whose standards, the Press Complaints Commission ruled, fall short of those required for the job’.
